2026-2027 PR-COIN – Arthritis Foundation Quality Improvement Education Program for Pediatric Rheumatology Fellows

The PR-COIN – Arthritis Foundation Quality Improvement Education Program for Pediatric Rheumatology Fellows is a year-long quality improvement (QI) training program designed to support up to 6 rheumatology trainees in advancing QI skills. Through progressive learning, this program will equip participants with QI knowledge, provide coaching to conduct a local QI project at their center, facilitate travel to one annual in-person learning session (LS), and receive comprehensive training around patient and family engagement. Ultimately, this opportunity provides physicians with an excellent opportunity to gain critical QI skills valuable in advancing improvement activities and developing leadership skills beneficial to overall career advancement.

Participants will present their work at a PR-COIN Learning Session (or other PR-COIN meeting depending upon logistics and best fit for the QI project) prior to the end of the program, with travel support included. It is expected that fellows will publish project-derived abstracts, poster presentations, conference/learning session presentations, and/or peer-reviewed journal articles.

What are the goals of the PR-COIN - Arthritis Foundation QI Education Program?

Participants who complete this program will gain critical QI and leadership skills that will enable them to lead QI projects and contribute to their career advancement.

What activities are part of this program?

Participants will have the opportunity to join the four-part quality improvement progressive learning pathway to include Quality Improvement Fundamentals, Introduction to Quality Improvement, Intermediate Quality Improvement, and Advanced Quality Improvement. Cumulatively, this four-part learning plan offers 10 hours of direct QI training led by the PR-COIN coordinating center quality improvement consultant. Participants will select a project to apply and refine their QI abilities. The QI Consultant will provide frequent mentoring to the fellows throughout the project period. Additionally, program participants will have the opportunity to join monthly Action Period Calls (AP calls), biannual Learning Sessions, and other PR-COIN meetings and structured conversations to gain additional QI training, insight, and mentorship from PR-COIN network participants.

Who is eligible for this program?

Physicians (MD, DO) currently in a fellowship at a PR-COIN affiliated center providing care to pediatric rheumatology patients. Early-career faculty (instructor or assistant professor) at PR-COIN affiliated centers are also eligible to apply for the program, however, program spots will be first awarded to those currently in their fellowship years.
