Meet Sofia!

Sofia is a 10-year-old who was diagnosed with both JIA and bilateral Uveitis at 3.5 years of age. In the beginning, Sofia saw limited success and liver issues with Methotrexate, but after being switched to Humira, she has seen quiet eyes and joints for the past four years.

“We are so fortunate to have the amazing Dr. Vora as our Sofia’s Rheumatologist,” says mom Kristine. “We have received such great care from the beginning and have been fortunate to have had a successful treatment plan.”

Kristine was impressed that Dr. Vora thoroughly presented all treatment plan options to her and her husband from the start to ensure all were in agreement with the course of action.

“Dr. Vora is inquisitive, believes in the advantages of collaboration between doctors across disciplines and patient families, and never stops learning all she can to effectively treat each individual child.”

When Dr. Vora asked Kristine to be a PR-COIN parent representative for Levine Children’s, Kristine thought it could be a great way to give back and do something proactive for her own child. She has continued to participate in monthly Parent Working Group calls and has volunteered to help create Levine’s first pediatric rheumatology team for the hospital’s annual fundraising race in an effort to raise funds for care improvement projects.

Additionally, Kristine has helped to finalize parent surveys to assess patient families’ specific needs, and before COVID-19 hit, had begun helping with another fundraising event and the beginning stages of developing parent work groups.

Kristine says being at a PR-COIN site, and the aggressive approach of Dr. Vora, has helped Sofia achieve medicated remission. Today, Sofia enjoys reading, imaginative play with her sisters, arts and crafts, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, Girls on the Run, and recently finished her first season of competitive volleyball.
